Deaconess Children’s Services and other public and private agencies in Snohomish County came together in 2006 as a collaboration to provide basic necessities for child safety and to help parents to better meet the needs of their children. The Parent Enrichment Program collaboration includes Deaconess Children’s Services, DSHS, Cocoon House, Housing Hope, the Institute of Family Development, Snohomish County Human Services and the First United Methodist Church.

How It Works
PEP has two supporting programs at Deaconess: Impact and Intensive Case Management (ICM)

Transportation and child care
Deaconess offers child care at classes as well as transportation to and from meetings.

Who’s eligible?
Any parent may participate in the PEP program. Most are referred by Child Protective Services or a local Family Court judge. For parents who are self-referred to parenting courses, fees are assessed according to a sliding scale, based on their income. For Intensive Case Management, all families are referred by PEP collaboration partners.

What it does:
PEP professionals help parents achieve:
  1   improved child safety;
  2   improved child well-being; and
  3   a greater nurturing bond between children and their parents

through:
  1   increased positive parenting and family management skills;
  2   increased understanding of normal child development; and
  3   increased knowledge and use of community resources.
