IMPACT PARENTING COURSES
Impact is a positive parenting program for parents and their children, birth to 7 years. It is designed for parents who are prepared to make major changes in the way they parent their children. These classes are designed to help improve the relationship between children and their parents. We believe this improves opportunities for child development and overall well-being, and decreases the risk of neglect and/or abuse.
The Incredible Years is an 8-20 week class designed to promote children’s social and emotional well-being and strengthen parenting skills and family relationships. Parents learn together using role play, videotaped and instructor modeling, and problem-solving approaches. They are encouraged to share their experiences with the group to promote group problem solving.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a 15-20 week, one-on-one program with trained coaches. It is designed for parents with children ages 2-7. During weekly PCIT sessions, parents are taught skills to improve interaction with their children. They work on these skills with their children in supervised sessions and continuing practice at home. The PCIT coach observes behind a one way mirror and assists parents through an electronic ear-piece.
Transportation and child care
Deaconess offers child care at classes as well as transportation to and from meetings.
Who’s eligible?
Any parent may participate in the Impact program. Most are referred by Child Protective Services or a local Family Court judge. For parents who are self-referred to parenting courses, fees are assessed according to a sliding scale, based on their income.

3 increased knowledge and use of community resources.
